D'Orc #1 is trading hands between $300 and $1,320 on eBay following Sony Pictures' acquisition of the comic for a live-action film. The 2020 one-shot from Source Point Press saw scattered sales at under $50 before the announcement broke Monday.
The comic, written by Kevin Cuffe and drawn by Justin Currie, follows an orcish hero fighting in World War I. The book had a modest print run and sold quietly at conventions before word of the film deal hit social feeds. Within hours, listings multiplied and bids climbed into four figures.
Source Point Press published the issue as part of its independent horror and sci-fi catalog. The publisher typically prints between 2,000 and 5,000 copies for debut one-shots, and D'Orc #1 never received a second printing or trade collection. That scarcity is now fueling the price run.
Sony has not announced a release date, director, or cast. The studio's recent track record with comic adaptations includes mixed results, and collectors are watching to see whether the book holds value or corrects once the initial frenzy cools.
Why it matters: Modern spec spikes tied to film deals often collapse within weeks, but sustained interest depends on actual production momentum. D'Orc #1 joins a long list of indie keys that surged on Hollywood news, and collectors who paid north of $1,000 are betting on continued media coverage rather than long-term scarcity. The book's low original print run offers support, but comparable film-deal spikes (Minor Threats, Radiant Black variants) have seen sharp corrections when development stalls or public attention shifts.
