The Big Thing
Frank Miller joins Something Is Killing The Children #50, which hit 250,000 orders

BOOM! Studios announced that Frank Miller will join the creative team for Something Is Killing The Children #50, which has already reached 250,000 pre-orders and will feature special blind bag variants at retail. The milestone issue continues the series' pattern of explosive order numbers, though at roughly half the 487,000 Absolute Batman #24 posted and below Amazing Spider-Man #1000's 400,000.

The blind bag promotion bundles random variant covers in sealed packaging, a collectibles strategy that has driven higher order volumes across publishers this year. Retailers cannot see which variant they receive until opening, creating a secondary market chase dynamic. Miller, whose recent work includes the Sin City and Dark Knight franchises, brings name recognition that could push reorders when the issue ships.

BOOM!'s Something Is Killing The Children launched in 2019 and has consistently outperformed expectations, spawning the House of Slaughter spinoff and a Netflix adaptation currently in development. The series follows monster hunter Erica Slaughter and has become one of the decade's breakout creator-owned hits, regularly placing in monthly top-ten sales charts.

Industry observers note that 250,000 orders for a #50 issue reflects unusual sustained momentum. Most ongoing series see attrition by issue twelve. The combination of James Tynion IV's writing, Werther Dell'Edera's art, and aggressive retailer incentive programs has kept the title climbing rather than declining through the typical speculation window.

Why it matters: The addition of Miller to a quarter-million-copy order book signals how legacy creators are now joining mid-run indie hits, not just Big Two events. For collectors, blind bag variants create instant scarcity and a lottery-style chase that can inflate aftermarket prices before anyone knows print runs per cover. If Miller's involvement drives the same reorder frenzy seen on his past projects, #50 could cross 300,000 before release.

Jason Todd returns to Teen Titans after 2025 solo cancellation DC Comics is bringing Jason Todd back into a lead role with a new Teen Titans series, creating friction with Nightwing in the process. The Red Hood character saw his solo series cancelled in 2025, making this a quick rehabilitation into team leadership.
